Landon Dowden - 2018 Camp Speaker

Landon Dowden is lead pastor of The Church at Trace Crossing in Tupelo, Mississippi. With the firm belief that the Gospel is the only hope for aligning our lives with God’s Word, Landon is firmly committed to verse by verse exposition of the Bible, because “nothing is better for God’s people than God’s Word.”

Landon yielded his own life to Christ at the age of eight while growing up in Louisiana. After finishing with a Bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University, Landon furthered his studies with three graduate-level degrees (Master of Divinity, Master of Theology and Doctorate of Philosophy) at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, LA.

He is married to Tara and father to Arabella, Adalaide, Adoniram & Alastair. Leading and shepherding his family is a great priority to Landon, as is making disciples through preaching, mentoring, biblical counseling, and through living life together in the power of the Gospel.

Some of Landon’s hidden talents are humming and beatboxing simultaneously, rapping part of Psalm 23 in Hebrew, being a national record holder for Jump Rope for Heart, and still being able to remember the “cheat code” to Contra on Nintendo.

From Harrisonburg, Virginia, Skyward will be returning to lead us in worship at Camp Alpine 2018!

What is Camp Alpine?

Camp Alpine is Burke Community Church’s summer camp experience for 7th through 12th grade students (2017-2018 school year). It’s an opportunity for middle and high school students to get away from the busy schedule of life to experience time with God in a whole new way.   At Camp Alpine, you'll have fun with friends, have amazing adventures, and walk away changed!

Who is it for?

Camp Alpine is for current (2017-2018 school year) 7th through 12th grade students. Students do not have to attend Burke Community Church to participate in Camp Alpine.

What does it cost?

The cost for Camp Alpine is $300 (Registration Fee) + Water Park & Adventure Activity Fees ($50-$110 depending on activity selected.)  Here’s what that covers: all meals and lodging while at Camp Alpine (you are responsible for your lunch on the way to camp), transportation, admission to ACE Water Park, all camp activities and materials.

What are the activities at Camp Alpine?

What makes Camp Alpine unique is the variety of the quality, outdoor adventure activities.  Each student chooses from whitewater rafting, caving, paintball, and hiking.  (Rappelling is an additional option for high school ONLY.)  Adventure activity sign ups are on a first come, first serve basis.

One day of camp will be spent at the ACE Water Park which offers water slides, a zip line, giant inflatables, and the crowd favorite BLOB on its 5 acre lake.  The camp itself also has a lake with inflatable activities, human foosball, a giant swing, a climbing tower, and a swimming pool.

What forms do I need?

All participants need to turn in an ACE Water Park Waiver and an Alpine Adventures Activity Waiver.

All students (but not leaders over 18 years old) need to turn in a Burke Community Church Medical/Media/Liability Release Form.

What is adult supervision like at Camp Alpine?

We take a number of adults to make Camp Alpine successful and safe. Our cabin leaders will be at about a 1:7 ratio. Camp Alpine also has staff to lead all of the adventure activities.

Are there dress guidelines for camp?

Yes!  We value modesty; please remain sensitive to others by dressing in a conservative manner at all times.  If leaders have concern that clothing may be stumbling to others, you will be asked to change.  Please leave the following clothing at home:  spaghetti strap tank tops, ribbed tank tops, midriffs, halter tops, short shorts, spandex, any form fitting athletic wear, and other tight fitting clothing.  Also, please note that footwear must be worn on campus.  Swimwear must be modest one piece or a fully covering tankini (no bikinis, revealed midriffs, cut out bodices, low cut tops or high cut bottoms.)  The campus requires that shirts and shorts be worn to and from the swimming areas and on campus at all times.

My child has a food allergy. Will the camp be able to accommodate?

As long as you make us aware of your dietary needs and you sign up with enough time for us to communicate with the camp, the staff at Camp Alpine will be able to accommodate most food allergies.
